At the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy Sarajevo on April 2, 2026, a ceremony marked the successful completion of the “Help in the Field of Education” project, implemented with the support of the Government of Romania and the Romanian Agency for International Development Cooperation (RoAid), alongside the Embassy of Romania in Sarajevo.
The project focused on modernizing classrooms and improving working conditions at the Department of French Language and Literature, within the Department of Romance Studies. As part of the initiative, newly equipped classrooms were symbolically named after renowned cultural figures Constantin Brâncuși and Eugène Ionesco.
The event brought together numerous distinguished guests, including the Ambassador of Romania to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Anton Păcurețu, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Kemal Durić, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy Prof. Dr. Adnan Busuladžić, Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Minka Džanko, as well as professors and students from the Department of Romance Studies.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the Romanian Embassy provided further financial support for the acquisition of books, textbooks, and academic materials, enriching the department’s library. Romania, as an active member of the Francophonie community, continues to promote the French language and culture through such initiatives.
This project builds on earlier support from Romania, which included funding for the renovation and equipping of the University’s Senate Hall and ceremonial hall, as well as the installation of modern audio and recording systems.
The cooperation comes in a symbolic year marking 30 years of diplomatic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Romania, as well as the 150th anniversary of the birth of Brâncuși. To commemorate the occasion, the Romanian Embassy organized an exhibition of photographs of the artist’s sculptures at the Faculty, accompanied by a special program prepared by students and professors. The exhibition will remain open to visitors for the next week.
Both the Faculty of Philosophy and the Romanian Embassy expressed confidence that this successful partnership will continue to grow, further strengthening academic ties and cultural exchange between the two countries.
