MP’s of the Assembly of the Municipality of Višegrad accepted the initiative of the Youth Association of RS and made the decision to start the procedure of expropriation of the former house of Ivo Andrić, which is located on the left side of River Drina, near the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge.
On the session of the local parliament it is decided within this initiative to talk to the owners of this house, which was left as heritage to Ivo Andrić by his aunt Ana and uncle Ivan Matkovšik. After that, Ivo Andrić gave this house to the Municipality of Višegrad in 1953. The Municipality of Višegrad sold it to Ploskić family, who posted a tribute sign designating that this was the house where Ivo Andrić spent his childhood. Since then numerous discussions were held with the owners of this house who refused to sell it.
This new initiative holds that if the owners refuse the terms of the sale again, they will ask the Government of RS and the supervising Ministry to proclaim this house as a building of national interest in order to start the procedure of its expropriation.
The explanation of the Youth Association of RS and the newly implemented Municipality’s decision is that with the purchase of this house where our Nobel Prize writer spent his childhood, they could eventually start the procedure of turning it into a museum, which would improve the tourist offer of Višegrad. This decision about the purchase of Ivo Andrić’s house or its expropriation was unanimous.
