bob2The Assistant to the Mayor of Sarajevo for Education, Culture and Sport Ramiz Kadić yesterday in the City Hall, together with his associates, hosted a reception for the representatives from the International Luge Federation (FIL), who are to hold the annual meeting of the Presidency and the Executive Committee in our city.

On behalf of the City of Sarajevo and its citizens, Kadić thanked for the support that this federation provides to the members of the Luge Federation of B&H for years now, to enable the sled, bobsled and skeleton track on Trebević for holding summer training on a sled on wheels, it was announced from the City of Sarajevo.

The International Luge Federation provided a donation of 15 sleds on wheels, 15 helmets and 17 pairs of special sneakers, with a total value of 143.000 BAM, and according to the president of the International Luge Federation Josef Fendt, this organization and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are willing to finance the reconstruction of the tracks.

Kadić said that the City of Sarajevo, together with the Luge Federation of B&H and the Olympic Committee of B&H, will address the initiative for the reconstruction of the tracks to the International Olympic Committee.

The reconstruction of the tracks would create a possibility for the sledge competitions at this track to be listed again in the calendar of events of the International Luge Federation.

bobThe track on Trebević is the only Olympic facility that has been used in 100 percent capacity even after the Olympics in Sarajevo. Every year, three World Cup races were held in Sarajevo, and sometimes even more.

The bobsleigh track was built for the 14th Olympic Winter Games held in Sarajevo in 1984. It was used for the competition on bobsled two-seater, four-seater and luge, and was the most demanding and most expensive project of the Olympics. Reckoned to be the fastest, but also one of the safest in the world., it was largely destroyed during the war in 1990s.
