On 25 July 2020, at three o’clock in the morning, officers of Border Police Unit Gradiška prevented the smuggling of 55 kilograms and 402 grams of the narcotic drug marijuana. The narcotic drug was discovered on the second line of border checks during a detailed border control of a Fiat Ducato truck of Montenegrin license plates, at the exit from Bosnia and Herzegovina at International Border Crossing Point Gradiška.
Namely, during the inspection, with the use of specialist equipment donated by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, police officers noticed several packages covered with transparent foil in the sides of the vehicle covered with wood panelling. The Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH and the Judge for Preliminary Proceedings of the Court of BiH were informed about the event, following whose orders officers of BPU Gradiška apprehended the driver, a citizen of Montenegro, and searched the said vehicle. After the search of the vehicle and weighing, it was determined that there were 50 packages with a total weight of 55 kilograms and 402 grams of marijuana. Along with the report on the criminal offence of ‘Unauthorized trafficking in narcotic drugs’, the citizen of Montenegro will be handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
‘The commitment of BP BiH is the permanent protection of the state border and the fight against cross border crime and illegal migration. This action, as well as previous actions to prevent the smuggling of people, narcotics and excise goods, are a continuation of the activities of BP BiH in order to identify, detect and prosecute smugglers and cut off organized criminal groups. In addition to measures to prevent illegal crossings of the state border in the border area, BP BiH police officers are continuously collecting information on persons engaged in smuggling, and such activities will continue in the future’, BP BiH Director Zoran Galić.
