Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH and Minister of Finance and Treasury, Vjekoslav Bevanda, signed an agreement on the new loan for the construction of additional sections of the highway on Corridor 5C with the Director of the Department for Transport of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Sue Berrett.
Signed loan agreement for the construction of additional sections of the highway on Corridor 5C is worth 76 million EUR. Bevanda and Berrett signed a financing agreement for the modernization of the Port Brcko in the amount of 10 million EUR as well.
As noted, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) continues to support the construction of transport infrastructure in our country.
Construction of Corridor 5C is a strategic priority for BiH and it represents an indicative extension of Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T). Corridor 5C is included as a top priority in the state Framework Strategy of Traffic from 2016 to 2030.
To help build this highly important corridor, EBRD has approved a loan of 76 million EUR to finance the construction of additional sections of the highway on Corridor 5C, section Svilaj – Odzak in the north of the country and sections Donja Gracanica – Klopce near Zenica in the central part of the country.
The second project is a loan of 10 million EUR for financing of the modernization of the Port Brcko and improvement of road and rail access to the port. Brcko is a city in the north of the country which is located on the banks of Sava River. Port Brcko is the only river port in the country and a transit point for heavy industry goods to BiH and from it.
Bevanda thanked to the EBRD for its continued support in the development of transport infrastructure in BiH.
“These two projects will support the development of the economy and regional integration through better transport between cities and between BiH and neighboring countries,” said Bevanda.
Since the beginning of its operations in BiH, the EBRD has invested more than 1.9 billion EUR in more than 135 projects in the country. Strategic priorities of the EBRD for the period of 2016-2018 in countries where the EBRD operates are revival of growth, strengthen regional integration and address global issues.
