In the last seven years, BiH has granted citizenship or approval for granting citizenship to 428 people from 26 countries worldwide. Most of the approvals were issued to persons from Croatia, a total of 171 approvals, while citizenship of BiH was granted to 42 persons from Arab countries.
In the last seven years, the highest number of people who applied for citizenship of BiH was from Croatia, and most of them applied in 2011 when 57 people received BH passport. This number was decreasing over the years, but from 2010 until now, a total of 171 people got citizenship of BiH.
On the second place are requests from Serbia and 97 persons received citizenship of BiH in the abovementioned period. Besides regional countries, most requests for granting the citizenship of BiH came from people from Arab countries. In the past seven years, 42 people received BH citizenship, and they were mostly from Syria, Jordan, and Sudan.
Based on the available data from the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, there has been no approval of citizenship of BiH in the last 7years for persons from Arab countries whose tourists, as well as investors, are coming to BiH, such as the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
When it comes to granting citizenship of BiH under the provisions on the reception of persons of particular interest to BiH, a total of 82 citizenships of that kind have been granted in the past 10 years, mostly for Montenegro (13), Croatia (12) and Serbia (10).
It should be noted that the cases of citizenship acquired under the Agreement on Dual Citizenship between BiH and Serbia do not come on the consent to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, but only decision are submitted, and they are introduced into the register of acquired citizenship of BiH, while cases of naturalization under the Agreement between BiH and Croatia come to the Ministry on the consent, as the provisions of this Agreement are referred to the application of the law on citizenship of the contracting states.
