79 years ago, on 6th May, one of the football greats, Ivica Osim, was born in Sarajevo.
He started his football career in 1954 at the Željezničar youth team in Sarajevo, for which he made his first-team debut in 1959 at the match against Proleter from Osijek.
During his playing career, he performed for the Dutch Zvole and the French clubs Strasbourg and Valenciennes.
He played 16 games for the “A” national team of Yugoslavia and scored 8 goals. He participated in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics when he scored 4 goals in five matches played.
As a head coach he run Željezničar, Partizan Panathinaikos, Sturm, Jeff United and the national teams of Yugoslavia and Japan.
His often philosophical understandings of football as well as of life are valuable, because they are sincere and always focused on progress.
He has been a member of the FF BH Mediation and Counselling Committee since 2012 and on 22nd December 2016 was named as the FF BH Honorary President.
