Eight members of the European Parliament from different parties sent a dramatic letter to Europan Union (EU) foreign and security policy chief Josep Borrell and High Representative (HR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Christian Schmidt, urging them to finally react and stop Milorad Dodik.
In this letter, they expressed great concern over the latest moves by the authorities in the Republika Srpska (RS) entity and the announcement of new activities to overthrow the constitutional order in BiH. They warn that tensions are growing and that they are produced primarily by the member of the Presidency from RS, Milorad Dodik, primarily by the blockade of state institutions and constant work on secession by destroying the constitutional order of BiH.
Deputies fear that such a RS policy would jeopardize stability throughout the Western Balkans, which could even cause armed conflict in some areas.
”The illegitimate withdrawal from BiH institutions is a direct threat to peace in BiH, ” it was emphasized in the letter.
They pointed out that the word “war” has never been mentioned more often in the Balkans than in recent weeks and months. They are showing Serbia as one of the culprits, which recently, in a certain way, threatened NATO as well. Deputies in the EPcalled on both the OHR and the EU leadership to react urgently and sanction those who disturb the peace and disrupt the constitutional order.
They also call on EUFOR to maintain peace and preserve the Dayton Agreement and the territorial integrity of BiH.
The letter is signed by Tineke Strik (Greens), Michael Gahler (EPP), Tonino Picula (Party of European Socialists), Hilde Vautmans (Renew), Reinhard Butikofer (Greens), Paolo Rangel (EPP), Dietmar Koster (Party of European Socialists), and Klemen Groselj (Renew).
