The snow which was falling in Nevesinje since early morning hours reached the height of almost 20 centimeters by 2 p.m., which is the record amount of snow this year.
With temperature of about three degrees, it seems like winter is just beginning in Nevesinje, although it is the end of April.
However, according to the people of Nevesinje, winter in April is not unusual there. On April 5 last year, a snowstorm engulfed the city, and in 2014 snow was also falling in Nevesinje in April. The snow was falling on April 14, 2011 as well, when 12 centimeters of snow were recorded. Those much older say that on 20th of April 1938 over 50 centimeters of snow fell in Nevesinje, and the snow was also falling in Mostar, Dubrovnik and Podgorica.
Although the mechanization of “Nevesinje putevi” had already been engaged in some other operations, the snowstorm forced them to return to the winter regime. So far it is difficult to forecast what damage the snow will cause to the agricultural producers, but the damage will certainly not be negligible.
