With an official promotion of the documentary “Reborn”, the Sarajevo International Airport will mark 20 years since the post-war opening of the airport for civil air traffic today.
After the war events and complete destruction of airport capacities, on August 15, 1996 the Sarajevo Airport was reopened for civil traffic. The documentary will mark this important jubilee.
The film reminds of the far past of the 1960s, when the Sarajevo International Airport was built and opened for the first time, and it accentuates its second birth and ambitious development. The film was made in the production of Television Sarajevo, and the author is Edita Sulejmanović.
A longtime employee and the current Director of the Airport, who participated in its reconstruction and the official opening in the post-war 1996, Armin Kajmaković, stated that immeasurable efforts of all employees made it possible for the Sarajevo International Airport to represent a respectable company and a business partner recognized by many world and European airlines today.
Director of the Airport highlighted that twenty years later the company achieves one success after another and breaks the record in the number of passengers.
After the post-war opening of the Airport, first flights that were established were between Sarajevo and Zagreb and Sarajevo and Istanbul. By the end of 1996, Sarajevo Airport recorded 26.000 passengers and was the only airport in BiH in the function of civil air traffic. All maneuvering surfaces were repaired, as well as technical facilities of the airport and facility of air control with the control tower.
General reconstruction of the Airport’s terminal building with new technology and equipment was successfully completed in early 2001, and with official opening in March 2001 the Airport completed all contents necessary to meet the needs of passengers.
