The Climate Change Seminar on ‘Opportunities, benefits and challenges of EU Climate Policy and Legislation’ will take place on the 20th and 21st of February 2013 at Banski dvor (Bana Milosavljevića bb) in Banja Luka. The Seminar is organized under the EU funded project “Regional Environment Network for Accession (RENA)”, with the aim to enhance regional cooperation in the Western Balkans and Turkey in the fields of environment and climate change in the prospect of accession to the European Union. The RENA project is implemented by Human Dynamics consulting company in a consortium with five other international consultants (Niras IC, Poland; PlanMiljø, Denmark; Egis Bceom, France; WYG International, UK; DeLeeuw International, Turkey).
Climate change is one of the four topics dealt by the RENA. The Climate Working Group supports potential candidates and candidate countries to converge with the EU climate change legislation and to develop and implement cost effective climate change policies and strategies. The target group of the Seminar includes authorities, the industrial sector and civil society organizations. The first day of seminar will address climate policies and implementation while on the second day discussion will be focused on the key EU climate legislation and the challenges ahead.
Welcoming speeches will be delivered by RS Minister of Spatial Planning, Civil Engineering and Ecology, Srebrenka Golić, Giulio Zanni, Head of the Banja Luka Office of the Delegation of the EU to B&H, B&H Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Emina Salkičević Dizdarević, FB&H Minister of Tourism and Environment, Branka Đulić, FB&H Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry, Erdal Trhulj, representative of Brčko District BiH, Petar Blekić, UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in B&H, Yuri Affanasiev, and the Deputy Head of Unit for International and Inter-Institutional Affairs, in the European Commission’s Directorate General for Climate Action, Yrjo Makela.
