The Award “Keys to the City of Sarajevo“ to Pope Francis

Pope Francis' Easter VigilThis year, the award „Keys to the City of Sarajevo“ will be given to the Pope Francis, it was determined today by the City Council of the City of Sarajevo.

Pope Francis will visit Sarajevo on June 6th this year. It is to be his first visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Pope Francis advocates for a stable and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina and for equal rights for all its citizens, which is why he will be granted the award “Keys to the City of Sarajevo”. The award will be handed to the Pope by the Mayor of Sarajevo, Ivo Komšić.

Previously, this recognition has been awarded to the famous conductor and composer born in Sarajevo maestro Oskar Danon, the famous Italian conductor maestro Riccardo Muti, the director Jasmila Žbanić, the Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, and a number of other public figures.
