EU financed twinning project ”Support for the implementation of the strategy and action plan for integrated border management in BiH” has officially finished on 17th December.
The main objective of the project was the implementation of an effective system of border management in BiH that would give more functional, open but controlled and secure borders.
The project consisted of four components, and during the two years 14 planned activities were
covered by it.
These activities were aimed at harmonization of BiH legislation with EU standards, improving the monitoring structure for the implementation of Strategy for integrated border management, coordination of border services, the development of a joint risk analysis and also to support the sharing of data and information between agencies involved in border management of BiH.
The project was jointly funded by the European Union in the amount of 1.425 million EUR from the fund of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and the Ministry of Security of BiH with 75,000 EUR.
Austrian Agency for European Integration and Economic Development (AEI) in partnership with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) ensured the qualified and experienced experts from Austria, Germany, Finland, Slovenia and Hungary to aid the realization of this project.
The main beneficiaries of the project are the agencies and institutions involved in the integrated border management of BiH, in particular the Ministry of Security, the Border Police, Indirect Taxation, Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, the State Veterinary Office, Administration for Plant Health and three boundary Inspections at the level of entities and Brčko District.
