After the meeting of foreign ministers of member states of NATO that was held in Brussels, the Secretary-General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg said that the European allies and Canada contributed to the increase of defense last year by about 10 billion USD.
At the meeting was also discussed the agenda of the NATO Summit that will be held on the 25th of May.
“We will talk about the way to deepen transatlantic relations through fair distribution of the burden,” stated Stoltenberg, adding that the role of NATO in the fight against terrorism will be discussed at the summit as well.
He added that NATO is helping neighboring countries to preserve stability.
“We also talked about the situation in the Western Balkans. We agree that in this region, which has crucial importance for the security of Europe, we need to maintain our presence, to focus on this area and continue with the initiatives that we have started,” said Stoltenberg.
At the end, he noted that they discussed the situations in Turkey and Russia as well, adding that Turkey has the right to defense and the right to trial for those who are behind the attempted coup in that country but in accordance with the law and legal norms.
