potatoWith the ratification of the International Convention on Protection of Plants, BiH adopted the Law on Plant Protection, and formed the Agency for Protection of Plant Health which works as a part of BiH Ministry of Foreign Commerce and Economic Relations.

The head of this Agency is Radenko Radović who said to Večernji list that his agency is working hard to eradicate all irregularities in this sector, and as a result the Agency for Finances gave first positive review of the Agency in 2011, which according to Radović is indeed a great success.

Two years ago, he further states, the implementation of the special project of review of quarantine of harmful organisms on potato has started which was the first great project implemented in the entire BIH with the aim of protecting plant health and in the end, when the project is completely finished, BiH will be able to export its potato to the EU.

Radović noted that the European Commission has sent a questionnaire on plant health, in particular potato, which was a challenge and which was finished quite successfully and the now needs to send an evaluation report back.

He furthers states that after the trilateral meeting of the European Commission, Croatia and BiH, and official request for export of potato was sent to the EU, and noted that he hopes that BiH will be able to export potato to the EU, and with that to Croatia and added that the EU has recognised that BiH has made a considerable progress in the field of plant health regulations.
