A new ski season was officially opened on Jahorina Mountain on Saturday with putting into operation the newly built ski lift “Sidro” Poljica and the burning of the Olympic torch, which will burn throughout the year as a reminder of the 1984 Olympic year.
Olympic flames were lit by Nemanja Majdov, the world champion in judo, with other Olympians and Paralympians from the East Sarajevo city area.
Jahorina Olympic Center Director Dejan Ljevnaic told reporters that this year they were the first in the region to put the ski resort in operation.“We put into operation a new lift with the capacity of 1,200 skiers per hour, did lighting for a distance of five kilometers and, thanks to the ski lift` Sidro ‘, allowed night skiing on the entire Poljica track. The artificial snowmaking system is in operation, we have built a new lake, so we are satisfied with the investments made, ”said Ljevnaic, Biznis Info reports.
On December 3rd, member of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH’s) Presidency Milorad Dodik officially opened the newly constructed Javor-Partizan gondola, 1,100 meters long, with 36 cabins, with a capacity of 2,700 skiers per hour, on Jahorina Mountain. Dodik congratulated the Jahorina Olympic Center on another major infrastructure endeavor that takes the Olympian beauty to the top of European and world ski destinations even faster.
He confirmed that the institutions of the Republika Srpska will continue to strongly support the development of the Jahorina Olympic Center.
The investment is worth eight million euros and gondolas will connect part of the Praca ski area with part of the Poljice ski area, and the route will also work when other installations are not able to do so due to weather conditions. In addition to the gondola, three ski slopes were built, arranged according to FIS standards, five kilometers long, as well as a new lift in Poljice, with a capacity of 1,200 skiers per hour, ekapija news portal reports.
