The Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton, Denijal Tulumovic, opened the 47th International Fair of Agriculture and Food Industry – Plum Fair in Gradacac on Tuesday.
During his address, Tulumovic pointed out that the Gradacac Plum Fair is a pillar of economic development in the Tuzla Canton and congratulated the organizers for succeeding in their intention to organize such an economic event in controlled conditions.
This year’s fair event is held in specific circumstances. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, exhibition capacities have been reduced to about 2,500 m2 of open and closed space.
At the fair, which will last four days, about 150 exhibitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina and countries in the region will present their products and services.
“Fairs are an important tape for the development of the economy, especially small and medium enterprises, and therefore we should praise the persistence of the organizers to maintain the continuity of the international fair of agriculture and food industry, the Plum Fair in Gradacac. Places where the indigenous product and the origin of food are taken into account. Food quality and biodiversity have been maintained thanks to the perseverance and hard work of farmers. All this gives this fair authenticity. The Gradacac Fair has become a symbol of normal business and the return of economic development that businessmen are waiting for in these difficult times,” said Tulumovic.
The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management in the Government of Tuzla Canton, Mustafa Sakic, pointed out that in the past year, the Government has provided twice as much funds for incentives in agriculture.
“We saw the shortcomings and needs of farmers and our obligation was to support them. From 3.6 million this year, we have raised incentives to 7.6 million BAM in order to enable the continuous development of agricultural production in Tuzla Canton. Unfortunately, agricultural crops suffered damage from storms and hail. Therefore, we have undertaken additional activities to expand anti-hail protection in the Tuzla Canton,” said Sakic.
International Fair of Agriculture and Food Industry – Plum Fair is the oldest specialized economic event in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded in 1969 under the name “Plum Day” and this is the 25th fair that has been held continuously from 1996 until today.
Visitors will, in compliance with hygienic-epidemiological measures, have the opportunity to see presentations of the latest products and services in the field of production and processing of food and beverages, agricultural machinery and protective equipment.
Admission for visitors is free, and the fair runs from August 25th to 28th.
