Results of the research on public opinion, implemented by the Directorate for EU Integration in March and April this year, show that 76 percent of citizens support the accession of BiH to the EU.
As a reason for support, the participants in the research usually stated the opening of a larger number of good workplaces and the guarantee f permanent peace and stability. Those who do not support the accession of BiH to the EU mostly justify their attitude by bringing up the increase in taxes and costs of living.
As in previous annual research, nearly half of the participants believe that fight against corruption is the most important reform which would improve the everyday life of BiH citizens, while 11.6 percent of participants believe that the most important are tax reform and removal of obstacles for employment. As much as 73 percent of citizens believe that reforms should be implemented even if they were not a prerequisite for EU integration, in order to create better living conditions for BiH citizens.
According to participants, young people would benefit the most from accession to the EU (42.3 percent), followed by politicians (18.6 percent), and students and researchers (5.9 percent). Around 37 percent of participants said that the EU will strengthen the internal relations and continue the process of expansion, while 17.3 percent of them believe that EU as an integration will not survive.
To the citizens, the most interesting topic regarding the integration is the pre-accession assistance, and the most widespread ways of informing about EU integration are still television and internet. In comparison with the last year’s research, 11 percent of participants more heard of the Directorate for EU Integration.
