Sarajevo Times wishes all citizens Happy B&H Independence Day today!
22 years ago, based on the will of the majority of citizens, B&H became an independent and sovereign state. At the referendum, which was held in 1992, 64 percent of citizens said that they ‘’want to live in a sovereign and independent B&H, a state of equal citizens and peoples of B&H-Muslims, Serbs, Croats and members of other people who live in B&H’’.
The referendum for B&H’s independence was held at the recommendation of the Arbitration Commission of the International Conference on Yugoslavia, in the final phase of the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia. It was held on 29 February and 1 March, and marked the appropriation of citizens towards the future of the country, but it was also an introduction to a bloody war. However, voters from all over B&H came out to vote. Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats voted for the independence of B&H.
