Dr Renzo Daviddi on the Process of Formation of Cantonal Governments

renzo daviddiCommenting on the process of formation of Cantonal governments, Dr Renzo Daviddi, Charge d’affaires of the EU Delegation to BiH said:

“We reaffirm the crucial importance of government formation at all levels as a matter of the utmost urgency. In this context, the EU recalls that the selection of delegates to the FBiH House of Peoples should take place as soon as a Cantonal Assembly convenes after the elections and no later than one month after the certification of the election results. The legal deadlines for the selection of delegates to the FBiH House of Peoples have expired and any further delays in this process would have a negative effect on the election of the FBiH President and Vice Presidents and on the formation of the FBiH Government, as well as on the establishment of the BiH House of Peoples.

“Therefore, the EU Delegation/EUSR calls upon the Assemblies of the Sarajevo and Una Sana Cantons to address the issue of nomination of delegates to the FBiH House of Peoples urgently and deliver the candidates lists to the BiH Central Election Commission. We also encourage other Cantonal Assemblies that have not fully completed the process of selection of delegates to the FBiH House of Peoples to do so swiftly. Governments at the different levels in BiH have pressing tasks in order to address citizens’ needs and concerns, so any further delay must be avoided.”
