In today’s time when all technologies are perfected, especially those deadly for humanity, it is important to have police forces that are trained and equipped with modern technology, weapons and personnel that will protect us. Special Police Unit of the Federal Police has it all, and their staff include specially trained dogs who are ready to respond to any dangerous situation.
Special Police Unit of the Federal Police is formed from elite police officers, carefully selected and equipped with highly sophisticated weapons. One of the specifics of SPU is teamwork, however it does not exclude self-initiative of the individual. Stable individuals were included in a top-coordinated teams and their activities are implemented exactly according to set schedule and trained discipline. Recognizing that each superficial move can be fatal, the specialists are focused on specialized trainings, a pace set by the building of mutual trust, respect for team and individual, high efficiency in the execution of tasks and a negligible percentage of injuries in the realization of complex and high-risk tasks. Dedication to the preservation and rescue of citizens and the preservation of life and health of their colleagues, ranks this unit among the most professional anti-terrorist units in Europe.
Seemingly harmless Belgian Shepherds are trained to overpower the gunman, a potential terrorist, find explosives and drugs, but also people in an accident. They are part of SPU MFA since 2004 and have never disappointed. Some of them came to Sarajevo as aggressive dogs that in countries such as Germany were not able to train and they wanted them euthanized, but professional guide dog training from the Federal Police was able to reach out to them and make them the best members of their team.
Dogs are often in the field. They provide support in the search, helping in the search, but also overcoming the dangerous criminals. When the dog bites someone, he will not release until receiving a command. If it comes to a dog that works on detection, he will show you the place where the explosives or narcotics are and will not move until he gets a command from his guide. They never made a mistake.
When it comes to working, members of the team devote their morning to care for dogs, and they pay special attention to cleanliness of the premises where the dogs live. You can see much attention that has been invested in the hygiene of the premises, as well as dogs. Then they have regular obedience training, fitness and conditioning training, detection work with teams of all units in order to be ready for any situation. After working with dogs, members of team are working on themselves, they train and practice for action.
All training with dogs is adapted to our conditions so that the dogs do not know when is exercise, and when the real action. Dogs are motivated to work in any weather conditions and even after several hours of driving they immediately jump out of the van and they are ready for action because they know that the reward is coming.
“Having a dog as a partner in the field is invaluable because you can rely on it one hundred percent. So, to pay special attention to respect the guide dog. The new guide cannot do any training until the establishment of a top contact with the dog because only in this case the dog will give life to your guide, “said Martic.
