The BH barcode 387 stamped on products in the stores is not a completely reliable guarantee that the product was made in B&H.
Although most Bosnians and Herzegovinians when shopping in stores pay attention that the bar code 387 is imprinted on the products they buy, believing that is a guarantee that the product was made in B&H, that is not necessarily always so.
Zlatko Mahić from the Association GS1, which assigns the bar codes for products in B&H, explains that the bar code 387 means that the product was placed on the market by a company from B&H, but it does not necessarily have to mean that the product was also produced in B&H.
‘’There are cases, for example, where a Macedonian company produces the goods for a BH company that later just distributes the goods to the BH market. Such products also have the 387 label’’, explains Mahić, adding that the country of origin is mostly written on such products, but in very small font that is hard to read.
