China represents the fastest growing market in the world, which is an opportunity for all countries of the world for cooperation, trade, and exchange of not only material goods, but the culture and knowledge as well. A high-level workshop called “One Road and One Belt: Opportunity for Everyone”, in the organization of the Association of Bosnian-Chinese friendship was held in Sarajevo.
A former member of the Presidency of BiH, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Haris Silajdzic recalled that BiH established diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China back in 1994, during the war, but that he never even imagined that relations will develop to these measures.
“Today we are having a meeting where we will present a very important large-scale project that is inclusive and focused on people. A civilization turnaround took place and we returned to the beginning, but in a completely different way. We had a communication by land by the beginning of the 16th century, from the 16th century by sea, and then we raised in the air, and now we are returning to the land that has been largely marginalized – Eurasian land, which is the largest. This is the silk road in a whole another way,” stated Silajdzic.
He noted that Europe became more continental after Brexit and that we are all aware now that we are a small part of Asia or Asian peninsula.
“In this project, I can see a chance to overcome cultural differences, to get used to each other in this modern age of fast changes,” said Silajdzic.
The workshop was organized in cooperation with the Association of Independent Intellectuals “Krug 99” (Circle 99) and the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo, and participants at this event, among others, were Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Sarovic, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in BiH Chen Bo, the former Ambassador of BiH in France and Egypt Slobodan Soja, a Professor at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo Anto Domazet, the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce of FBiH Mirsad Jasarspahic and a Professor, the Deputy Director of the Department of Political Sciences, Director of the Center for International Affairs and Diplomacy of China at the Chinese Academy of Administration, Prof. Dr. Yu Jun.
