Drivers at the territory of BiH are legally obliged to possess and use winter equipment for motor vehicles in the period from November 15 until April 15, regardless of weather conditions.
Winter equipment includes pneumatic tires with winter profile on all wheels (tread depth minimum four millimeters) or pneumatic tires with summer profile (tread depth minimum four millimeters) and corresponding chains that are mounted on drive wheels in case of winter conditions.
For freight vehicles and buses, winter equipment also includes a shovel and a bag of sand.
Penalty for lack of possession of mandatory and winter equipment amounts to 40 BAM.
BIHAMK states that due to the lack of information the drivers happen to have winter tires but not chains, which is fine by law, but in case of more heavy precipitation and lower temperatures, especially in mountainous areas, they cannot move on the road.
It often happens that these driers who get stuck on the road (usually drivers of freight vehicles) make a deadlock or complete blockade of traffic at certain sections, which is why they should ask for information about weather conditions and road conditions on time.
Before the winter season begins, drivers are recommended to check whether the depth of tire profile is sufficient and whether the air pressure in the tires is adequate, to check the motor oil condition and cooling liquid condition, and to check the battery and cables.
To avoid the freezing of doors, locks should be oiled.
