The United States Embassy in Sarajevo is pleased to announce that on Friday, November 8, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Mesa will present a donation from the U.S. Government’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) program to the BiH Indirect Tax Authority (ITA) and to the BiH Border Police.
The donation ceremony will be held at Sarajevo International Airport, Kurt Schork 36 on November 8 at 11:45 Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Mesa, Director of the BiH Border Police Vinko Dumancic and Director of the BiH Indirect Taxation Authority Miro Dzakula will deliver short remarks. Regional EXBS Advisor for Bosnia and Herzegovina Christopher Milam will also attend the ceremony.
The donation, worth $553,510 includes, among other things, five vehicles to be used by ITA mobile anti-smuggling units and advanced X-ray inspection system to be used at the Sarajevo Airport, vehicle search systems, and other valuable equipment that will help discover, Interdict, and seize WMD and thus enhance border security in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) program has been active in BiH since 2005 and is designed to help strengthen the capacities of the law enforcement agencies as they work on advancing control of export of weapons and improving border security. Bosnia and Herzegovina has received up to five million dollars of assistance through EXBS in equipment donations and training.
