The project of cogeneration district heating system of Sokolac on biomass, which envisages obtained electricity and not only thermal energy for district heating, which is supported by the Government of Republika Srpska, was presented yesterday at Jahorina.
Realization of this project should ensure the sustainability of the existing district heating system Sokolac and its extension to the rest urban part of the municipality, as well as some suburban areas.
“We hope that the public-private partnership will lead to the success of this project and that Sokolac will get a quality heating,” said Deputy Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska Milenko Todorovic, noting that the district heating system on biomass should provide 4.1 megawatts of thermal energy and 1 megawatt of electricity.
Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mirko Sarovic stated that this Ministry is one of the partners in the project.
“This is a project that contributes to energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources through the use of waste, or biomass,” said Sarovic, adding that this project is part of the Action Plan of BiH for renewable energy sources.
According to him, with the implementation of this project Sokolac will obtain high-quality heating, get free from bio-waste and get a certain amount of electricity as well.
Head of the EBRD Office in BiH Ian Brown, said that this project has the potential to serve as a good example of supplying citizens with cleaner and cheaper energy.
Estimated value of the investment amounts to 15.2 million BAM.
