The Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to B&H, NJ.E Ruggero Corrias.
On this occasion, the Mayor spoke to the ambassador about the post-war reconstruction and since this is the beginning of diplomatic mandate of the Ambassador Corrias and his first visit to Sarajevo, Komšić wished him a successful mandate during his term in B&H.
“Sarajevo after the war looked like Dresden 1945. Today, only in some places, on some facades can be seen the traces of the war. Basically, everything is reconstructed thanks to donations from the European Community. Now, however, in Sarajevo has something to see. The Sarajevo City Hall is in the final phase of reconstruction and its opening is expected next year“, said Komšić.
Considering the interest of the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy stated during today’s meeting, the Mayor Komšić briefed the Ambassador on the administrative and legal status of Sarajevo as the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the way in which the City of Sarajevo functions, its territorial organization its responsibilities and funding sources.
During the meeting, they discussed about the improvement of cooperation between B&H capital city and the cities of Italy. In this regard, the ambassador stressed the interest of Turin (capital of the Kingdom of Italy, the Olympic city and the city of the automobile industry), leaded by the Mayor of the City Piero Fassin, to establish connection of “twin cities” with Sarajevo.
Ambassador Corrias on this occasion invited the Mayor Komišić at the Venice conference twin cities, which will be held on 14th October 2013, and the presence of Sarajevo City would mean a good start of a new and closer cooperation with the Italian cities, was announced from the City of Sarajevo.
