Politicians, both domestic and foreign, must take care of welfare of all citizens, as Pope St. John Paul II noted 15 years ago during his visit to Banja Luka.
Komarica recalled messages from 15 years ago when the Pope proclaimed John Merz as blessed, and then he noted his support to all the noble efforts of the people of BiH and representatives of the international community to eliminate all the war consequences.
“He gave clear suggestions to all people, politicians, and domestic and foreign representatives of the church. The question is how seriously we understood them and whether we implemented them,” stated Bishop Komarica.
Ivo Tomasevic, the Secretary General of the Bishops’ Conference of BiH, considered that we made some progress, but not in the necessary extent and as much as Pope John Paul wanted.
“If we would think more about what he told us, we would certainly make a better progress and everything would be much better for us,” said Tomasevic.
Marking the 15th anniversary of this visit to the Catholic Church and all citizens of BiH took place under the slogan “Be the Builders of Your Own Future”, which are words that John Paul II said in Banja Luka on June 22, 2003.
With his visit to the wartime BiH and the messages that he sent to all of its citizens, John Paul II invited all people in BiH, especially Christians – Catholics to peace, forgiveness, communion, solidarity and that BiH is possible as a place of coexistence with all of its differences.
