Srebrenica Drama ‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’ officially nominated for the Oscar

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the official list of Oscar nominations, which also includes the film “Quo Vadis, Aida?” of Bosnian director Jasmila Zbanic.

Nineteen years after Danis Tanovic won an Oscar for the film “No Man’s Land”, Zbanic received an official nomination in the same category for the film about the genocide in Srebrenica.

Zbanic’s film was also nominated for two BAFTA awards: Best Director and Best Foreign Film. The BAFTA Awards are scheduled for April 11.

Bosnia, July 1995. Aida is a translator for the UN in the small town of Srebrenica. When the Serbian army takes over the town, her family is among the thousands of citizens looking for shelter in the UN camp. As an insider to the negotiations Aida has access to crucial information that she needs to interpret. What is at the horizon for her family and people – rescue or death? Which move should she take?
