The Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić and the President of the BiH Olympics Committee Siniša Kisić signed a decision on naming members of the organizing committee for the XII European Winter Olympics Festival for Youth 2017. Nenad Samardžija, the Mayor of East Sarjaevo, already signed this decision, but due to an official trip he was not able to participate at today’s ceremony held on the premises of the OK BiH in Zetra.
The signing of this significant document was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo Ranko Čović, President of the City Assembly of East Sarajevo Miroslav Lučić and the Second Vice President of the BiH Olympic Committee Izet Radžo.
“I believe that together, we will meet the obligations and prepare ourselves for a successful Youth Olympics. An organizing committee has been formed with the consent of the cities of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, and with the support of the BiH Olympic Committee’’, said Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić. He added that this is a large body, made up of representatives of relevant institutions of the cities of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo and BIH institutions. The next step is the formation of an Executive Committee (with subcommittes and committees), whose responsibility will be the operative part of the organization of the XIII European Winter Olympics Festival for Youth 2017.
According to the President of the East Sarajevo Assembly Miroslav Lučić, ‘this sports event is a big opportunity to show Europe and the world that two partner cities, Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, in cooperation with OK BiH, will do a quality job for the good of all its citizens. We have already shown that we know and we can organize a large competition such as the Winter Olympic Games 1984. This project is a good opportunity for cooperation and the development of both cities, when it comes to the sports-recreational and tourist resources of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo.
“The Winter Olympic Festival for Youth is one of the most important and most challenging events after 1984, which the BiH Olympics Committee will support. It is a huge responsibility for cities, entities, and countries that are sponsors and holders of certain activities to promote BiH, Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, both entities and sports and youth’’, said the President of the BiH Olympics Committee Siniša Kisić. He added that athletes from 49 European countries will participate, and will try to establish their best results, and they will compete in 8 sports disciplines.
