With performance of BiH shot putters Hamza Alić, Mesud Pezer and Kemal Mešić, the participation of the national team of BiH at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was over.
In competition of 34 shot putters in qualifications, Pezer was the 24th with a result of 19.55 meters, Alić was 26th with 19.48 meters, while Mešić was the 30th with the result of 18.48 meters. Twelve shot putters qualified for the finals. Six athletes managed to meet the norm which amounted to 20.65 meters, while the remaining six athletes entered the finals thanks to results.
First performances in Rio de Janeiro were of the shooter Tatjana Đekanović, who was 35th in air gun shooting from ten meters, and swimmer Amina Kajtaz, who did not manage to qualify for the semifinals of the swimming competition in the discipline 100 meters butterfly stroke.
The best result was expected from the best BiH athlete Amel Tuka at 800 meter run. After passing the qualification group, in the second semifinal group Tuka won the fourth place with a result of 1.45,24 seconds, having the 12th result in total rankings. Eight athletes qualified for the finals.
Athlete Lucia Kimani won the 116h place in marathon. This 36-year-old athlete originating from Kenya, who performed at the Olympics for the third time this year, ran the 42-kilometer-long section on the streets of Rio de Janeiro in two hours, 58 minutes and 22 seconds.
Swimmer Mihailo Čeprkalo was 37th in the swimming competition qualifications in the discipline 1.500 meters freestyle. This 17-year-old athlete from Banja Luka had a result of 15 minutes and 31.62 seconds, which is almost five seconds less than his personal record and the record of BiH. Forty-six swimmers participated in the qualifications and eight athletes with best results from six groups qualified for the finals.
The best BiH judo player Larisa Cerić did not manage to defeat the first obstacle at the tournament in Rio. In the category +78 kilograms, the BiH competitor was eliminated by the Tunisian Nihel Cheikh Rouhou, triple champion of Africa and fourth judo player on the world rankings in this category.
BiH tennis players Mirza Bašić and Damir Džumhur also said goodbye to the Olympics after the first round. Bašić lost to the Argentinian Juan Monaco with a result of 6:2, 6:2, while Džumhur was defeated by the Israeli player Dudi Sela with 6:4 and 6:4.
BiH will have a new chance to win the first Olympic medal in 2020, at the Olympic Games in the capital of Japan, Tokio.
