The latest research, with the main focus on the life costs, has covered more than 200 cities in the world, concluding that Luanda, the capital of Angola, is the most expensive city in the world. On the second place is Hong Kong, on the third is Tokyo and on fourth is Zurich. When speaking about the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, is on the low 202nd place.
Luanda, the capital of Angola, is the most expensive city in the world – at least for Western experts, replacing the Hong Kong, which is now on the second place.
The research was done by the consultant firm Mercer, and it took into account different parameters such as the costs of Western living standards. Primarily, it compared the cost of food, accommodation, public transport, clothing and recreational activities.
For instance, the price of hamburgers in Luanda is almost 13 euros, but when converted from currency to currency, in London it is only five euros.
Angola is one of the largest oil exporters in the world. Since the end of the civil war in 2002, the number of employees of international companies in Luanda has increased, making residents willing to pay high prices to live in a safe environment.
