Previous researchs that have been conducted evidently demonstrated that the oil in Herzegovina exists, said Vesko Budinčić, the Mayor of Ljubinje.
The document which relates to the research on the oil and gas exploration in the Federation of BiH stated that a preliminary analysis of source rocks was made.
After the obtained results, it was stated that the most promising structures where the oil could be found are located in the area of Stolac, Mostar, Drežank (Drežnice), Tomislavgrad, Livno and Glamoč.
It was emphasized that the edge of the Popovo plain and to nearby mountains are known for numerous sites that have bituminous rocks. But of these, only site Mišljen, in the municipality of Ljubinje was explored in detail
“Based on the analysis, the bitumen is oil containing 9.79 percent bituminous materials. The bitumen is characterized by a relatively high content of resin and a lower concentration of asphaltenes, and is classified as asphalt” was announced in the document.
