The action of cleaning the abandoned Catholic cemetery in Bosanski Petrovac was held yesterday, at the initiative of the parish Drvar – Bosanski Petrovac, and with the encouragement of the Muslim and Orthodox citizens.
The group of youth from the parish Drvar, led by the parish priest Don Davor Klecina and several Muslims from Bosanski Petrovac participated in the action.
The initiative was supported by the Mayor of Bosanski Petrovac, Zlatko Hujic, who ensured the needed tools and machines for cleaning.
The Mayor Zlatko Huljic promised the further assistance in order to finish the arrangement of this old cemetery, that was opened in 1911 but was devastated in the World War II and since then, no one took care about it.
While cleaning the cemetery, the devastated tombstone of distinguished pharmacist from Petrovac, Nikola Turic, who lived a full 113 years, from 1808 to 1921, was found.
The Catholic community in Bosanski Petrovac is scarce, and this action, aimed to show how major communities should relate to minor ones, and to spread the message of peace, cooperation and coexistence, but also the message of the need of the care of local communities for the cultural and historical heritage.
