So far, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has no reported cases of West Nile virus infections, but the situation on the ground is monitored with respect to the increased number of mosquitoes and it would not be a surprise to register such cases,” said in a statement to FENA Head of the Department of Epidemiology of the FBiH Public Health Institute Dr. Jelena Ravlija.
The Institute of Public Health of RS reported seven patients with suspected West Nile fever.
Five patients were treated who had less severe clinical symptoms and they were released to home care, while two patients have severe clinical symptoms, and majority of the patients are middle-aged.
According to the definition of the European Center for Disease Control, the final diagnosis should be made along with confirmatory testing, which cannot be done in RS.
