The inauguration of the monumental work “The Place of Multi-religious and Lay Meditation” by Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the greatest living protagonists of the global contemporary art, was presented on Wednesday in Sarajevo.
Maestro Pistoletto visited Sarajevo last year and announced his desire to present our city with one of his most important artworks permanently. This gesture shows that he is a true friend of Sarajevo, the first artist to donate his works to the ARS AEVI Collection back in 1994, during wartime.
“The current city administration has done everything possible to launch the implementation of the ARS AEVI project which is of great importance for Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The City has founded the public institution Museum of Contemporary Art Ars Aevi. In doing do, they have shown institutional support for the project, and created the precondition for building the museum of contemporary art in our capital city”, said Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka.
According to Ambassador Nicola Minasi, the arrival of maestro Pistoletto to Sarajevo for the fourth time is a sign of love and respect towards this city and country. “Pistoletto’s work which will be housed at the Historical Museum should be a place of dialogue, coming together and a symbol of respect for different cultures” stressed the Ambassador.
