It is official: Asmir Begovic will be wearing the jersey of Bournemouth from the next season. Bournemouth and Chelsea reached the agreement on compensation, and the goalkeeper of the National Football team of BiH will officially become a new member of the team from the Vitality Stadium from July 1, 2017.
Begovic spent two seasons in Chelsea, in which he arrived from Stoke City, and he enrolled a total of 33 appearances in all competitions and celebrated the title of the Champion of England this year. Bournemouth finished last season of the Premier League in the ninth place and it enters the next season with even higher ambitions.
“Bournemouth is an exciting and ambitious club, and it has a great perspective,” stated Asmir Begovic.
“Asmir is a great goalkeeper who proved to be capable of doing great things and he is at the top of his game. He is ready and a true leader on and off the field, and he is just the type of character that we wanted in our team. His arrival will increase competitiveness among goalkeepers that we have now and his experience will give a tremendous contribution to our players. I am very glad that he is here with us and I believe that he will be a very important player for us in the years to come,” said the Manager of Bournemouth, Eddie Howe.
The Executive Director of the club, Neill Blake, also added that this is a very important moment for the club.
“This transfer also represents an important message of our club. I am very happy that we are able to bring a goalkeeper of Asmir’s quality and experience. He is arriving at the peak of his career, and he has experience of playing in the World Cup and the Champions League although he is just 29 years old. It is very important for us to strengthen our team and further progress in the momentum that we reached in the last season, and bringing Asmir is the first step towards that goal,” noted Howe.
According to British media, Bournemouth paid a total of 15 million GBP for its new goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic.
