Novo Sarajevo municipality does not have a cinema, and attempts to solve this problem have so far been unsuccessful. In the 2013 budget funds for the construction of a cinema in the Center for Children and Youth are planned to be allocated for the project, said the Mayor of Novo Sarajevo Nedžad Koldžo for FENA. Novo Sarajevo had two cinemas, and “Kineme”, which engaged in the production and screening of movies, was sold as a result of privatization, owned both. Since then, the municipality was not able to have a say in the sale of the cinemas.
‘’Currently, Novo Sarajevo municipality has a valid urban project, but does not have investors’’, said Koldžo.
Seven years ago, the municipality had investors for the cinemas, but it did not amount to anything due to the crisis, and investors felt that it was not the most topical issue and gave up.
The municipality in the last few years has been investing funds in the Center for Children and Youth for the restoration of the facades, landscape and the interior.
“We plan to base it all on what we have and to construct a cinema in the Center. Four years ago we donated funds to the Center for a movie projector, but these funds were used for something else”, added Koldžo.
Now they intend, depending on the budget, to fully restore the interior of the hall and the construction of cinema halls.
Sarajevo Canton is the only canton that has not complied with the law on the distribution of income at the cantonal level, and according to Koldžo, this represents an added problem because budget allocations that are arbitrarily made do not have any pre-guaranteed funds.
“Novo Sarajevo municipality is quite stable, and we are succeeding in many projects that are not within our jurisdiction, and so we hope that the issue of the cinema hall will be solved. We are acting in the interest of the citizens”, underlined Koldžo.
The cinema hall in the Center for Children and Youth is expected at the end of 2013.
