In a wider selection for the prize there are 152 novels, which include 51 from the USA, 23 British, 11 Canadian and 3 by Irish writers, and the rest are by novelists from non-English speaking countries. The novel by Selvedin Avdić was translated into English by Coral Petkovich, and the publishing house ‘Istros Books’ from London published ‘Seven Terrors’.
This year, books were nominated by libraries from 110 cities in 39 countries, and Avdić’s novel was nominated by the city library in Rijeka, Croatia.
The Mayor of Dublin Oisín Quinn said during the ceremony where the nominated books were announced that cultural tourism is an important part of the city economy and also said: This prestigious award increases the global reputation of Dublin as a literary destination’’.
The shortlist will be published on 9 April 2014, and the winner will be announced on 12 June 2014.
