Monument complex of War Tunnel D-B, known as the Tunnel of Hope, was the only connection with the world for citizens of besieged Sarajevo, and it was visited by approximately 120,000 visitors in the year of 2016.
“We have visitors from all continents, from the Middle East, from Central Europe, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Canada, and China. And we can proudly say that the monumental complex of War Tunnel D-B ended the year of 2016 more than successfully when it comes to the number of visits, but also improved the delivery of services to its visitors,” said the curator of the complex, Dina Memic.
She added that in the last year, because of the situation in Turkey, the number of visitors from that country was unfortunately reduced.
“We started last year with the introduction of free service of audio guides for visitors in Bosnian, English, and Turkish language, and we ended up with the additional three languages, Italian, Spanish and Arabic,” said Memic.
In 2016, we also issued the guide in the Braille alphabet for blind and visually impaired persons, as well as the application of guide through the museum exhibitions for the hearing impaired persons.
The Memorial Fund of Canton Sarajevo organized a presentation of the three best works that have arrived at the competition for the drafting of the urban-architectural design of monument complex of War Tunnel D-B for representatives of administrative bodies and local self-government units.
Memic said that the contest was extremely successful regarding the quality and the number of submitted works – a total of 16 of them, but she noted that, unfortunately, none of the submitted works met all the criteria that were set, so that the jury decided to award a second, a third and a special prize.
The exhibition of submitted works was opened on the 12th of January in the multimedia hall of the Memorial Fund in Kovaci, and it can be seen until the 26th of January.
