In the tent migrant camp in Velika Kladusa, without basic living conditions, there are more than 300 migrants, most of whom are families with children.
These are mostly migrants from Afghanistan who do not want to return to their homeland, but also to the Reception Center “Borici” in Bihac, because they want to be close to the border with the Republic of Croatia.
“I want to go to Italy or Belgium, my family is in Afghanistan, but in Europe I have relatives and friends, they will help me. I have been here for three months and it is getting harder every day because it is colder,” says Abdullah from Afghanistan.
His compatriot Hasan thinks similarly. “We have the right to a better life and to make our dream come true that’s why we’re here and that’s why we left Afghanistan, where, after the arrival of the Taliban, no one is well,” says Hasan from Afghanistan.
Although they built a tent camp in Velika Kladusa themselves, because they do not want to go to the Reception Center “Borici” in Bihac, they say that the conditions in that camp are difficult for them and that they are afraid of what will happen when winter comes.
“We have nothing. We sleep on the ground, we make a bed out of children’s clothes, six children sleep in one small tent and everything is wet because it rains all the time,” explains Adija from Afghanistan.
Those staying in the makeshift camp complain about the lack of basic living conditions. “I am here with my husband and daughter and it is very difficult for us. We eat what good people and organizations bring us, but we cannot bathe, we do not have a toilet,” says Afghan Zehra and continues: “A mother with a three-year-old grandson is here with us and they are having a hard time. My mother managed to cross the border and is now in Zagreb, and the two of them are here, and I take care of them.”
The only reception center for families with children in the Una-Sana Canton is “Borici” in Bihac. After the opening, the Reception Center “Lipa” in Bihac will have a special part intended for these categories, which will be able to accommodate about 400 people.
