On July 20th, the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Zeljko Komsic, will take over the duty of the chairman of the Presidency, and he told that there will be a lot of work in that position during the eight-month mandate and that it will be necessary to convene regular sessions.
In an interview with agency Fena, he emphasized that it is necessary to organize sessions of the BiH Presidency which will not be extraordinary or telephone, since it is an important aspect for the functioning of the state, but during the past eight months, when Milorad Dodik was chairman, this was not the case.
It seems to Komsic that everything else was more important to Dodik than the function he was elected to and for which he formally and legally receives his salary. That is why his first priority will be to maintain a regular rhythm of sessions where important issues will be discussed.
While speaking about the expectations in the upcoming period, he also mentioned the issue of a new wave of pandemics, which experts are announcing, and even though the Presidency is not in charge of the health domain, coordination with the Presidency is often sought in international contacts.
When it comes to foreign policy, Komsic reminded that the United Nations (UN) General Assembly will be held soon, and the arrival of the new High Representative, Christian Schmidt is expected to increase international contacts.
Komsic stated that the trilateral between BiH, Serbia, and Turkey is functioning, it was only slowed down due to the pandemic, but the one with Croatia is frozen due to the well-known views of official Zagreb, which refuses to communicate with the BiH Presidency while Komsic is one of three members.
For Komsic, such a policy of official Zagreb is pointless and does not bring anything good to anyone, so he thinks that itwould be good if their position changed since there is a need for meetings at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
“There is also a need to revive the trilateral meetings between BiH, Croatian, and Serbian officials, which existed before. Next year, the Brdo-Brijuni meeting should be held, hosted by Croatia this time,” concluded Komsic, Klix.ba writes.
