The team of the Federal Civil Protection Administration (FCPA) in Tirana has delivered 50 tonnes of corn and wheat, as a support of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) to the Republic of Albania after catastrophic floods.
Following the Decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH on the referral of international assistance and previously performed administrative, customs procedures and other preparations of the convoy with humanitarian aid made by the team of FCPA from Sarajevo and Livno with two tows and two vehicles from Sarajevo, set off in morning hours, on December 13th , to transport a donation of 25 tonnes of corn and 25 tonnes of wheat as aid of the Government of the FBiH to the Republic of Albania, which was recently affected by catastrophic floods.
Earlier, the Government of the FBiH issued a decision at the urgent session to grant 25 tonnes of mercantile grain and 25 tonnes of grain wheat to the Republic of Albania, after a request for international humanitarian aid.
The FBiH Government for the transportation of this humanitarian aid has requested from the FCPA to implement it using the assistance of the competent state institutions of BiH and the prescribed procedures for receiving/sending international aid in the protection and rescue pursuant to the signed Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Security of BiH and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Albania in the case of accident that was signed in 2013.
This decision was made by the Federal Government after it adopted the information on the request for international assistance for the Republic of Albania. Anyway, the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center (EADRCC) on December 4th 2017 submitted a request for international assistance for Albania to the Ministry of Security of BiH, and two days later, through the Operational Center of BiH, it was forwarded to the Operation Center of FCPA.
While obtaining the required documentation by the FCPA, the BiH Ministry of Security has initiated the procedure to the Council of Ministers of BiH, ie submitted a proposal for the adoption of the Decision on Provision of International Assistance.
In early December 2017, abundant rain caused floods in the central and southern part of the Republic of Albania causing great material damage. According to preliminary estimates, more than 15.000 hectares of land were flooded, 4.715 buildings, 41 enterprises, 127 roads, 177 schools, 78 bridges, 30 water supply stations, 11 dams, 26 transformator stations, 29 embankments and one water pumping station . Due to the magnitude of catastrophe, management was taken over by the Albanian Armed Forces, as the response on this disaster. The FCPA team finished all activities of delivering and distribution of aid at two locations in the south of Tirana, in coordination and cooperation with the Command for the support of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania.
