Within the reconstruction of the Kastel fortress in Banja Luka, that started yesterday, towers 3 and 4, north and east walls between the entrance gates and part of bastions and walls that are an integral part of a section 2, will be reconstructed.
With funds from the European Union and the participation of the City of Banja Luka, around 10 million BAM will be invested in the reconstruction of these two sites. The investment of the City is around 2 million BAM and is related to the technical documentation and the construction of substation and hot water pipelines.
With the reconstruction of this section, Banja Luka will get more qualitative conditions for holding cultural events within the summer scene. The deadline for the completion of works is March next year, and the City should soon agree with the Rector of the University to be able to use the space of the University campus for maintaining the events that have occurred on Kastel during summers.
The Kastel fortress is the oldest historical monument in Banja Luka. The oldest traces of the settlements in the area of Banja Luka are remains of the Neolithic settlement, that were found exactly at the site of Kastel. Remains of dugouts, ceramics and clay objects from the Neolithic period witness that the prehistoric settlement was located on the plateau of Kastel since the ancient times.
