Currently, 28 small hydropower plants (SHP) are active in the area of Central Bosnia Canton (SBC).
Most of them are in area of Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje and Fojnica – six, in contrast to the Kresevo municipality which has no such facilities.
In 2005 and 2006, there was an expansion of the construction of mini hydro power plants in SBC, while only three facilities were constructed in 2016.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry of SBC, it is planned to construct two SHP in the area of Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje and three SHP in Vitez.
They point out from the ministry that the process of obtaining concessions is very complex and it is carried out in accordance with the existing laws on this issue.
“With the project documentation that justifies the construction of SHP, the approval of the Municipal Council, and the local community in which it is built is needed as well,” said Deputy Minister in the Department of Water Resources Abdulah Burek.
Moreover, he adds that the experience in the awarding of concessions is positive and that the concessionaires largely fulfill obligations under signed agreements.
“In addition to the payment of concession fees and the water they are obliged to return the object after thirty years again to the ownership of Canton, which represent an invisible and a long-term gain,” he stressed.
The population and fish stocks in the places where they are to build a small hydropower, will not be threatened.
Last year’s revenues from concessions in the field of water management in the area of Central Bosnia Canton was around 480,000 BAM.
