The first women’s expedition from B&H will go to the Andes next year, and the goal is to climb the highest peak Huascaran at 6.768 meters above sea level.
‘’This is the first time in history in B&H mountain climbing that a group of women are going into the high mountains, and this will undoubtedly impact the development of B&H mountaineering and the affirmation of women in mountain climbing and society in general’’, said member of the expedition Hasna Smječanin to Fena. Her mountaineering-ski club ‘Energoinvest’ is preparing their departure to the Andes.
The team that is preparing for Huaskaran comprises seven top hikers from various mountain clubs. They are: Hasna Smječanin, Sanja Mitrović, Emira Hukić (PSD Energoinvest), Dženita Merdan (PD Igman), Aida Mujić (No Comment), Daliborka Strika and Lejla Terzić (PD Željezničar). They all have years of mountaineering experience, which was acquired on climbs in the Dinarides, Alps, Caucasus and the Himalayas. Most of them underwent training under the ‘Sarajevo school of alpinism’. Some are certified mountain guides and capable backcountry skiers, and they are all connected with a love of mountain beauty.
The expedition will be implemented during the dry season on the Andes, lasting for one month. The climb to Huascaran will be a difficult and demanding physical and mental endeavor. Extraordinary physical fitness and adequate acclimatization is required for the climb.
