At the opening of the book fair in Gothenburg, the winner’s of this year’s awards for literature in the EU (2013 European Union Prize for Literature) were pronounced. The awards are intended to recognize the best new authors in Europe.
Among the 12 laureates from all over Europe, among them is writer Faruk Šehić, author of the novel ‘Book on the Una’.
For this book, he already won the Meša Selimović award in Tuzla in 2012. Every winner received 5.000 euros. This award motivates publishers to use EU funds to translate the books into other European languages.
This year’s winners will be handed the awards on 26 November at a ceremony in Brussels, with the presence of the High Commissioner and representatives in the world of literature, culture and politics.
