The expansion of the terminal building of Terminal B represents a priority strategic project for the International Airport Sarajevo in 2017, given that the existing infrastructure will not be able to meet the needs of passengers and traffic very soon, as confirmed from the company.
They explained that the terminal B is dimensioned to process a total of million passengers, and the tendency of growth of the number of passengers is expected in the upcoming year, due to the introduction of new lines that are expected from the spring of 2017.
This is an extremely complex and challenging project, especially considering that the works on the expansion of the terminal building must not affect the regular performance of airport activities.
The expansion should provide approximately 9,000 square meters of additional space on four floors and a basement, ground floor and two floors.
Besides the expansion of the terminal building, reconstruction of the runway is also a project that will be started soon.
Priority plan is to expand the platform for aircraft parking, which will provide three additional parking spaces for large planes, and they are planning the construction of an exclusive VIP lounge in order to satisfy all travelers.
Also, due to the increasing volume of exports from the International Airport Sarajevo, the construction of assembly-disassembly of the cooling chamber will be included as well, which will be used for processing of export of fresh meat and shipments of large dimensions.
From Sarajevo International Airport specify that they marked several records last year – 838,966 served passengers, the largest number of passengers in a single year, which is by 8.5 % more than in 2015.
Moreover, 109 141 passengers passed through Sarajevo Airport in July or 22.2 % more compared to the same month in 2015, which represent the highest percentage of growth in the history of this airport.
They emphasize that, unlike previous years when long periods of canceled flights were recorded due to fog and only in December 2015 was canceled 413 flights, just 15 flights were canceled in December 2016 due to fog.
