Chairman of the Presidency of B&H Dragan Čović stated yesterday at a press conference after the session of the Presidency of B&H that he is convinced how everything that is standing on the way of B&H towards the submission of a credible application for EU membership will be resolved by December.
Čović said that the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of B&H Denis Zvizdić informed yesterday the members of the Presidency of B&H on the preparedness of B&H for the submission of the request for membership in the European Union.
“Estimation of the Council of Ministers, actually the chairman who informed us, is that there exist all prerequisites for a credible application for EU membership during December this year, and I am convinced this is the right path we should take”, Čović said.
According to Čović, activities that should be done refer to the harmonization of the coordination mechanism, amendments to the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) which refer to traditional trade, and the estimation of progress for B&H which is to be received from the EU next month.
The Presidency of B&H, added Čović, made a conclusion according to which it proposes to the Council of Ministers of B&H to redefine the negotiations on the amendments to the SAA regarding traditional trade. Simultaneously, all attitudes and standards set for B&H by the EU must be abided, and during the discussions attempts will be made to protect domestic production.
Čović believes that there is enough space for negotiating about structure and contingents and abiding by the standards set for B&H by the EU, and to protect the domestic production on the other side.
