According to the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency in BiH (FIPA), countries that invested the most in recent years in BiH are Austria, Serbia, Croatia and Russia.
During 2015, the inflow of foreign investment was reduced due to the fact that it amounted to 477 million BAM in the last year, which is 303 million BAM less than in 2014.
The lowest inflow of foreign investment was recorded in 2009 when only 352 million BAM was invested in our country, while investors invested the most in 2007, when was recorded 2.6 billion of new investments.
According to the total investments from 1994 to the end of 2015, the country that has invested the most money in BiH is the Republic of Austria (1.2 billion EUR), than Serbia (over one billion EUR), Croatia (over one billion EUR) and Russia (502 million EUR).
The list of the most important countries investors in BiH in the past 21 years includes Slovenia (437 million EUR), Germany (314 million EUR), the Netherlands (276 million EUR), Switzerland (265 million EUR), United Kingdom (199 million EUR) and Turkey (187 million EUR).
Investments of all other countries in BiH amount to 678 million EUR.
Foreign investors in 2015 showed the highest interest for investing in manufacturing (34 %), the banking sector (25 %), telecommunications (14 %) and trade (11 %).
It is interesting that the most important share of foreign direct investment in 2014 was registered in the manufacturing sector (30.8 %), followed by real estates (22.8 %), banking (20.3 %), trade (13.0 %), services (6.9 %), tourism (2.6 %), telecommunications (1.5 %), transport (0.1 %) and other (2.0 %).
In the annual report of the Directorate for Economic Planning of the Council of Ministers of BiH in 2015, it was stated that among the main causes of weak domestic demand is significant decline in the current inflow of money from abroad in the amount of 7.9 % (after a significant increase by 7.8 % due to the increased aid after floods in 2014) and a reduction of direct foreign investment by 34.8 % in 2015.
